#IUvsMIZZ Post-Game Notes

Sept. 20, 2014

Recap |  Final Stats |  Quotes |  Staff  |  USATSI

Team

  • Indiana's win snapped Mizzou's four-game winning streak, which dated back to the 2014 Cotton Bowl. The Tigers are now 3-7-2 all-time vs. the Hoosiers.
  • Indiana did an excellent job protecting the football on Saturday and snapped Missouri's nation-leading streak of 47 games with a turnover forced.
  • The Tigers pushed their season tackles-for-loss total to 27 today with four TFLs for 16 yards of loss against Indiana.
  • Mizzou came into today's game ranked No. 6 nationally and No. 1 in the Southeastern Conference in sacks. The Tigers recorded two more sacks today, despite not having Markus Golden in the lineup, pushing their season total to 14.0. Baylor, Virginia Tech and Washington entered Saturday tied for the national lead with 15 sacks.
  • A season-high 66,455 fans saw today's game. The Tigers have topped 60,000 in attendance in each game this season.

Individual Offense

  • Quarterback Maty Mauk tallied his sixth career multi-TD game. Mauk finished with two scoring throws and has multiple TD tosses in all-four contests this season.
  • Mauk continues to throw touchdowns at an impressive clip this season and now has 14 after his two TD strikes today. Mauk's 14 touchdowns in 2014 already ranks No. 11 in single-season school history. Mauk equaled the 14 thrown by Brad Smith in 2002 for No. 11 all-time. Chase Daniel is the school record holder with 39 in 2008.
  • Mauk has now found the end zone through the air 11 times over his last three games. Prior to his two tosses today, Mauk threw four TDs last week vs. UCF and tied the school record with five at Toledo. The school record for TD throws over a three-game stretch is 12 by Chase Daniel in 2007 (Illinois, at Ole Miss, Colorado) and then again in 2008 (at Colorado, Texas A&M, at Kansas State).
  • Mauk entered Saturday tied for the national lead with 12 TD throws. He was tied with Washington State's Connor Halliday and Western Kentucky's Brandon Doughty.
  • Mauk also topped 300 yards passing in a game for the second time this season (second time in his career as well), throwing for 326 yards. Mauk hit six different receivers during his 28-of-47 passing day.
  • Mauk's top target was Bud Sasser, who made 11 grabs for 142 yards. Sasser's previous high for receptions in a game was five (twice) and his previous best receiving yardage was 121 in the win at Toledo two weeks ago. The 11 grabs are just outside the Mizzou single-game Top 10 and are the most since Michael Egnew's 11 catches at Baylor in 2011.
  • Jimmy Hunt recorded his fifth touchdown catch of 2014. One of the national leaders in that category, Hunt has TD receptions in three consecutive games, with all five TDs coming during that three-game stretch.
  • Sean Culkin recorded career highs of four catches for 45 yards and a TD in the contest. The score was the first of Culkin's career. His previous single-game best was two grabs for 23 yards at Toledo.
  • Russell Hansbrough narrowly missed a career high in rushing yardage. The junior finished with 119 yards on the ground on 12 carries. It's the fourth career 100-yard game for Hansbrough and the second time he has topped 100 yards on the ground against Indiana. He ran for 104 in last season's victory in Bloomington. His career high is 126 yards in the season opener against South Dakota State.
  • Hansbrough also logged a pair of runs of 40+ yards. His career high 68-yarder for a score today was the longest for a Missouri Tiger since Henry Josey ran 86 yards at Kentucky (Nov. 9, 2013).

Individual Defense

  • Shane Ray recorded two more tackles for loss, including a sack in today's game. The sack was Ray's team-leading sixth of 2014 and he pushed his TFL total to 9.5, which is also tops on the club.
  • Redshirt sophomore linebacker Michael Scherer tallied a new career-high in tackles for the second consecutive game. Scherer had 13 total stops today after recording 10 last week vs. UCF.
  • Ian Simon also recorded a career high in tackles today with eight. His previous high was six coming into Saturday.
  • Charles Harris recorded a career high four tackles, including his first career sack. Harris is the sixth Tiger this year to record at least a share of a sack.
  • Harold Brantley had a career high eight tackles and also showed his athleticism on a 10-yard rush (resulting in a first down) on a fake punt. Brantley also logged a quarterback hurry, his second of the season.
