Tigers Conclude Action at Speedo Champions Series Sectional Meets

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Members of the Mizzou swimming and diving team competed at the Speedo Champions Series Section (LCM) meets last week. A host of Tigers swam at the Central Section at Mizzou's Mizzou Aquatic Center, July 16-19, while two Tigers competed at the Western Sectional in Mt. Hood, Ore., July 15-19.
At the Western Sectional, Carter Griffin swept both the 100 and 200 back races, winning the events in 56.49 and 1:59.39, respectively. His 200 back time also set a new meet record. Griffin also took ninth in the 200 free in 1:53.07.
In Columbia, another incoming freshman, Hannah Stevens, matched Griffin's backstroke sweep with wins in the 100 back (1:01.98) and 200 back (2:13.18). She also claimed sixth in the 100 free in a time of 57.77.
Also earning wins at Columbia's Central Sectional were Danielle Barbiea in the 100 fly, Mark Conroy in the 100 breast with a meet record 1:02.69, Eegan Groome in the 400 free, Levi Hanks in the 200 free, Igor Kozlovskij in the 200 breast and Matthew Margritier in the 50 free.
Incoming freshman Erin Metzger-Seymour, Mizzou's second competitor in Oregon, earned finishes of second in the 200 fly (2:15.62) and third in the 100 fly (1:02.26).
In addition to the Tiger winners, 15 other Mizzou swimmers recorded top-eight finishes at the Central Sectional. On the women's side, Abby Duncan took second in both the 100 and 200 breast and fourth in the 200 IM, Anna Patterson had finishes of second in the 100 free, third in the 50 free, fourth in the 200 fly and sixth in the 100 fly, Brittany Hammond placed third in the 200 IM, Madison Bridges took sixth in the 100 back, Danielle Spradlin earned finishes of fifth in the 200 IM and seventh in both the 100 and 200 breast, Lauren Stoeckle was sixth in the 200 breast and eighth in the 100 breast, while Barbiea also placed eighth in the 100 free.
For the men, Kozlovskij had five top-eight finishes during the meet after also placing third in the 100 breast and 200 IM and seventh in the 100 and 200 fly. Martin Wallace had two second-place showings in the 100 and 200 fly, Sam Tierney took second in the 100 and 200 breast and third in the 100 back, Ryan Baker was second in the 800 free, third in the 1500 free, fourth in the 400 free and sixth in the 400 IM, Nick Davis finished third in the 800 free and eighth in the 400 free, Carter Wallace took fourth in the 400 IM and Eddie Mapel placed fourth in the 100 breast.
Additionally, Dillon Love placed third in the 200 back and sixth in the 100 back, Stephen Sobczak took fourth in the 100 back and eighth in the 100 free, Hanks added finishes of fourth in the 100 free, sixth in the 400 free and eighth in the 200 IM, Groome also took fifth in the 200 free, Margritier was fifth in the 100 free and Alex Glogoza placed seventh in the 100 back.
With times recorded at the Sectional meets, as well as times posted earlier in the year, 25 Tiger swimmers met qualifying cuts for championship events in August. Below is a breakdown of Mizzou swimmers and divers who will compete at meets next month.
