Head Coach Robin Pingeton
Opening statement...
"I'm proud of the way our girls bounced back tonight. The Bradley loss was a tough pill to swallow. I know there's a lot of disappointment and a lot of frustration. I was really proud of the way we were able to bounce back in practice yesterday. That was a long bus ride home and with the way they were able to regroup and bounce back, I think our leadership in the locker room has been outstanding and I give them credit for that. I was proud of our effort from top to bottom. We talked a lot about taking pride in not letting teams play harder than we do. It's something we can control night in and night out. There were points against Bradley when they competed tougher than we did so we want to make sure we put together a full forty minutes. I thought we did that tonight. I'm proud of our girls."
On Juanita Robinson's contribution...
"I thought she had a heck of a game. I thought she competed for the full amount of time she was on the court. That's what we want out of Juanita. She's a great player. I think at the beginning of the year I said she was that X-factor for us. There's a transition when you spend three years at a junior college and come in to our program that's looking for more structure and towing the line. There's a bit of learning curve and it's hard so you have to go through the fire but she is a kid that is only going to get better throughout the season. I thought she competed hard tonight I was proud of her."
On Morgan Eye getting back into a shooting rhythm after a drought...
"That smile is worth a million dollars. She deserves it. She has earned the right because she has worked so hard and done it the right way. It's hard when you look at our team, I know how bad they want it and they just have to learn to play through that pressure that they put on themselves because their expectations are of are so high. I've got to make sure I'm doing a good job of managing our team and not putting added pressure. When those shots are falling for Morgan, everybody has a smile on their face. She does things the right way and we definitely need her to get back on track."
On Jordan Frericks' impact this season...
"We knew she would be a key piece to what we're trying to get done here. I think her and Kayla both had a tremendous offseason. Jordan is a tireless worker. She is doing a great job of finishing around the basket for us. She is so much stronger and more explosive. I think the biggest factor is her confidence level. Defensively, she makes a difference with her presence. She had four blocks tonight and I think she can do that pretty consistently. She's been an anchor for us and there's no doubt about it."
On bouncing back from the loss at Bradley...
"We talked before about the game, it was probably good that we didn't have to sit on that loss for a week. We got to get right back on the court and compete. So I think we used that as kind of a fuel as to just go out and compete. We didn't ever want our effort to be questioned again. We talk about things we can control, and effort is definitely one of them. That's not something Coach should have to be coaching is effort."
On her deep three in the second half...
"It was one of those where I was kind of just feeling it, so I went for it. We were supposed to be in a "15" defense right after that make. I forgot because I got a little excited. But Coach gave me the smile, so I think she let it go."
On any possible adjustments made as she broke out of a shooting slump...
"I think it's more a mentality. I continue to get in the gym, same shooting routine. Nothing as far as (adjusting) goes. I think it's just a mentality, and so it feels really good to kind of break through that. The girls tell me to keep shooting the ball, and the coaches have told me to keep shooting the ball. So I think that's the biggest thing, just staying strong in mind."
Sophomore forward Jordan Frericks
On overcoming a slow start offensively...
"I think our energy -- I think we came out and were ready to go, but just seeing the options that were open, got a little into it, kind of knew what was going to happen when we moved the ball around. We knew how they were playing us and got the ball to whoever was open."
On defending SLU's Sadie Stipanovich...
"She's long. She was pretty good with post stuff. I just need to work on it and get stronger denying that."
Frericks' offensive success of late...
"My teammates, my coaches, they give me all the confidence in the world to go out and do what I do. They've done everything to give me the confidence through practice and everything they've gotten to where I am right now."
