Head Coach Robin Pingeton
Opening Statement...
"I am proud of our team. I thought they showed some great poise and toughness down the stretch there. We bent but we didn't break. I thought Lindsey had a heck of a game for us. A couple of those turnovers on the stat sheet are just poor execution on our out of bounds plays that she got credited for, unfortunately. I thought she just played with a lot of toughness and a lot of grit. I think we took some lumps when Jordan got in foul trouble early in that second half. She came back and did some great things for us. Overall, I thought it was a great team win."
On offensive sets in the second half...
"I think it was more based on what the defense was giving us. I thought we had some pretty good looks from the perimeter. I didn't think we shot the ball extremely well tonight. We have that scorer's mentality as a team that when you get an open look our kids have the confidence to try and knock down those shots. Tonight they were not falling, but we talk a lot about the next shot. I thought we took a couple quick shots there late in the game right before that last media timeout. I thought we had good looks. It is what we do. We look for open shots and try and shoot it before we turn it over."
On the lift Jordan gave the team playing in the second half with four fouls...
"She impacts the game so much on both ends of the court. She just has presence about herself. The growth that we have seen in her from last year to this year has just been outstanding. I think her teammates have a lot of confidence in her. She gets things done. She changes shots defensively. She rebounds so well and I think she is a really nice passer. She has a great feel. For her to come back out and do what she did with four fouls, I thought was really important."
Sophomore guard Lindsey Cunningham
On responding to Milwaukee's second half surge...
"Someone on the bench told me to tell the group that was on the court at the time that we weren't playing not to lose, we were playing to win the game. I think that was huge for us. We never had that mentality of getting scared that they were coming back. We were moving forward and that helped us out there."
On keeping Milwaukee away from the free throw line throughout the game...
"It shows a lot when your coach plays you with four fouls because that can be tough to do. We've been beat from the line this year and some last year and we put a huge emphasis now of throwing our hands and not letting them to get the free throw line. You have to play smart with four fouls and plenty of time on the clock."
On penetrating the lane more in the first half...
"I think that 1-3-1 was so open in the middle and we were attacking gaps well. In the second half, we ran a few more set plays and I think it worked out for us."
On her individual performance as a whole (12 points)...
"Obviously I know I have to cut back on the turnovers. We're all working on it. As far as the points, I've never been the player to care about how many points I score. Tonight I was open and shots happened to go down. At the end of the day, as long as we get the win that's all I care about."
On improving her shot in the offseason...
"I think just getting that first year under my belt and getting some confidence helped. In the first few games this season, Coach has told me to take shots because if I don't, it'll make it harder for our inside players."
On avoiding her fifth foul late in the game...
"Just thinking smart and not being as aggressive as I usually am."
On guarding a dynamic scorer in Ashley Green...
"She's a good player. She had a couple big three-point shots in the second half. We just needed to contain and contest and get low on defense. We did a great job of stopping her."
