Tiger Men Clinch Mizzou invite Title on Day Three

Columbia, Mo. - The Mizzou men's swimming and diving team claimed the 2014 Mizzou Invite team title as the Tigers scored 1304 points to best four other programs. Drury placed second with 732 points, followed by West Virginia (667), UNLV (459) and Missouri S&T (202).
Over the three day meet, the Tigers set nine school records and notched three NCAA A qualifying times, including two cuts from senior Sam Tierney. The senior notched A times and school marks in the 100 breast (51.68) and 200 breast (1:52.67), with the latter time a full second under the A cut.
Also with a pair of school records during the meet were senior Mack Darragh and sophomore Michael Chadwick. Darragh bettered his own program marks in the 200 fly (1:43.91) and 400 IM (3:45.58), while Chadwick posted Mizzou records in both the 100 free (42.70) and 200 free (1:34.47).
During Thursday action, junior Matthew Margiriter set a new program mark in the 50 free (19.41), while the Tiger relay 200 and 400 relay teams also set new records.
Junior diver Clark Thomas completed a dominating weekend in the diving well on Saturday by claiming his third win in three events at the Mizzou Invite. Thomas won Saturday's platform final with a final round tally of 319.80, ahead of freshman Hunter Fritter, who logged 307.30 points for second.
In the 200 back, sophomore Carter Griffin took the win in the A final after touching the wall in 1:42.13, while senior Austin Fish placed second in 1:43.81.
Senior Eegan Groome swept the distance events as claimed first in the 1650 free, joining his win in the 500 free on Thursday. Groome posted a swim of 15:19.99, while sophomore Nick Davis was third in 15:38.62.
The Mizzou divers return to competition in December at the USA Diving Winter National Championships. The swimmers do not return to the pool until a meet at Arizona on Jan. 2.
