Glen Cove, N.Y. - Mizzou women's golfer Alina Rogers teed off at the U.S. Women's Amateur in Glen Cove, N.Y today, Monday, Aug. 4, for the first round of play. The Toronto, Ontario, native finished the day 5-over par hitting a 75 on the day. Rogers is playing the Par 70, 6297-yard course at Nassau Country Club. She currently sits among the top 70 competitors in the playing field, tied for 66th overall.
Rogers is facing stiff competition at the championship as thirteen players are ranked among the top 25 of the Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings. In addition, nine competitors have won USGA championship titles in their careers.
Hosted by Nassau Country Club, the event runs through Aug. 10 and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this summer. There are 15 countries represented at the championship, including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, the People's Republic of China, Colombia, England, France, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, the Philippines, Thailand and the United States of America.
The second round of play continues tomorrow, Tuesday, Aug. 5, with Rogers teeing off on the 10th hole at 8 a.m. ET.
