Kraft Named to SEC Community Service Team

May 9, 2014

Columbia, Mo. - Junior Laura Kraft has been recognized by the Southeastern Conference today, May 9, as a member of the 2014 SEC Women's Golf Community Service Team. Kraft joins 13 other SEC women's golf student-athletes on the team.

Kraft spent the last season as Vice President of SAAC, Mizzou's Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She is very active in the Mizzou community and the Columbia area through the organization and she encourages other student-athletes to join her initiatives. Kraft organizes community service projects for other Missouri student-athletes including Caleb's Pitch where student athletes spend time at the children's hospital painting with syringes. She spends much of her time reading to elementary school students and also participated in Mizzou Moves, an initiative promoting healthy eating and physical fitness among children. Kraft was present at National Student-Athlete Day with Special Olympics and helped with Mizzou's shoe drive. Because of her efforts in the community, Kraft was recently voted President of Mizzou SAAC for next year.

The SEC names a Community Service Team for each of its 21 league-sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community through superior service efforts. All league-sponsored sports have had a Community Service Team since 2004, with at-large teams for men's and women's sports being chosen from 1999-2003. The SEC began this concept with a football Community Service Team in 1994.

Joining Kraft on the team is Daniela Lendl (Alabama), Emily Podzielinski (Arkansas), Victoria Trapani (Auburn), Elcin, Ulu (Florida), Sylvie Brick (Georgia), Megan Kinney (Kentucky), Ali Lucas (LSU), Kathryn Fowler (Ole Miss), Rica Tse (Mississippi State), Katelyn Dambaugh (South Carolina), AJ Newell (Tennessee), Janell Lysack (Texas A&M) and Rene Sobolewski (Vanderbilt).
