COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Tigers are back on the road this weekend as the team travels down to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Crimson Tide Invitational on Saturday, April 5th.  Opening up the weekend, however, is freshman Kaitlyn Fischer who will take to the track for the first time this season at the Stanford Invitational with the 10,000-meter run on Friday night.

This will be Fischer's first weekend of competition since her 5000-meter run performance at the SEC Indoor Championships in College Station, Tx.  The SEC Cross Country Freshman of the Year will make her Tiger debut in the 10,000-meter run Friday night, matching up against some of the country's top distance runners.

"This will be a great experience for Kaitlyn to run against the nation's best on a big stage," Joe Lynn, assistant coach in charge of the distance and mid-distance events, said. "The opportunity will set her up well not only for the season, but for her future.  She's in great shape, so we'll look to put together a solid race and then get back to work for bigger plans later this season."

The Competition: Alabama, Florida State, Louisville, Oklahoma, Penn State, and UT Arlington.

The Tigers will travel down to Alabama for the second consecutive year to compete at the Crimson Tide Invitational.  The Tigers had a successful day at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium last year, earning 13 new personal records (PR's) and a new meet record from the then-freshman Sam Dickerson, who won the men's 3000-meter steeplechase in 8:56.75.

Dickerson is one of the 14 current All-Time Top Ten performers (No. 7 - 3000m steeplechase) who will take to the track this weekend and will look to defend his title in the steeplechase.

Among those Top Ten performers are four of the top five top pole vault women in Mizzou history.  School Record holder junior Katrine Haarklau, senior Heather Green (No. 3), junior Maggie Givens (No. 4), and freshman Alyssa Applebee (No. 4) will take to the runway on Saturday at 6:05 p.m.  Green, Givens, and Applebee are all returning after their 1-2-3 sweep at last weekend's Bobcat Invitational in San Marcos, Tx., all vaulting at 3.86m (12-7.75).

Also returning from PR performances during last weekend's competitions are junior Jonathan Ilori and sophomore Tony Carodine, who moved into the No. 5 and No. 6 spots on the All-Time Top Ten list, respectively, during the Texas Relays.  They will fill different roles this weekend, as both are entered into the long jump and 100-meter dash.

Several All-Time Top Ten throwers are also slated to compete this weekend, including javelin throwers senior Hailey Twietmeyer and junior Macauley Garton.  Twietmeyer placed first at the Bobcat Invitational last weekend with a new PR of 49.28m (161-8) to maintain her No. 2 position in the record books.

Garton moved up in the history books with his first performance of the season: the SIUE Cougar Classic two weeks ago.  He placed first in the competition with a PR toss of 69.69m (228-8), moving up to the No. 3 spot on the Top Ten list.

Other All-Time Top Ten performers include: junior Brian Duncan (No. 9 - hammer), senior Sandra Hampton (No. 6 - javelin), junior Morgan Whitson (No. 9 - javelin), junior Courtney Wood (No. 6 - 3000-meter steeplechase), and senior Hayden Legg (No. 9 - 10,000-meter run).

"We are looking forward to a terrific weekend of track and field," Head Coach Brett Halter said. "Coach Waters, his staff, and the University run a first-class meet and this weekend looks to be no different.  For much of our team, this will be their opening outdoor meet of the year and an excellent early season test, so we excited for the high-quality competition this meet will provide."
