Box Score

, COLLEGE STATION, Texas - No. 15 Mizzou Softball dropped a tough-luck, eight-inning 4-3 result to No. 13 Texas A&M on Sunday at the Aggie Softball Complex, despite a strong pitching performance from freshman P Tori Finucane (Germantown, Md.), who allowed just one earned run and scattered five hits.

Head coach Ehren Earleywine and the Tigers (13-5, 1-2 SEC) got their run support from redshirt sophomore SS Sami Fagan (Dunnellon, Fla.), who batted 1-for-3 with a three-run home run. Redshirt sophomore OF Taylor Gadbois (Maryville, Mo.) produced a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with two infield singles.

Fagan's first home run as a Tiger was a sure thing in distance, and only needed to stay fair as it sailed straight down the right field line. Her long ball scored redshirt sophomore 2B Ashtin Stephens (Blue Springs, Mo.) and junior IF Corrin Genovese (East Amherst, N.Y.), with Stephens on base as a pinch runner for an infield single by junior 1B Kelsea Roth (Yorba Linda, Calif.). Genovese followed with an infield single in front of home to move Stephens around to third base.

Texas A&M (19-5, 2-1 SEC) was able to fight back after a fielding error on Mizzou to put two runners on with two outs. The following Aggie batter recorded a three-run home run to tie the game at 3-3, all three runs going as unearned on Finucane.

The following four innings went without runs scored for both sides, with Mizzou unable to score a leadoff single by Gadbois in the top of the eighth. Texas A&M was able to sneak a run across in the bottom of the eighth inning on a walk-off, two-out single to left field to score a runner from third base for the 4-3 final score.

Finucane pitched 7.2 innings in the setback (6-3), striking out four batters, allowing one walk and one hit batter. Texas A&M's Katie Marks earned the result (10-0) while pitching in relief, throwing the final 5.0 innings of action.

The Tigers next head to Evansville for a midweek non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, March 12, with game times scheduled for 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Mizzou will then be set for its 2014 home opener, an SEC series with Kentucky at University Field from Friday, March 14-Sunday, March 16. Game time for the Friday contest is slated for 6:30 p.m.
