Kearsten Peoples Receives Votes for Bowerman Watch List

March 6, 2014

COLUMBIA, Mo. – For the first time since its conception in 2009, a Mizzou Tiger has received votes for the prestigious Bowerman Watch List, as released by the USTFCCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) on Thursday.  Although she fell just outside of the ten women on the list itself, junior Kearsten Peoples is one of only five additional female student-athletes to earn votes.

The Bowerman Watch List recognizes those athletes who are in contention for the Bowerman Award, given out annually to the most outstanding male and female collegiate track & field athletes in the nation.

The recognition came after Peoples' second consecutive NCAA-leading performance in the shot put, which won her the SEC title on Friday.  Her top mark of the day, 17.81m (58-5.25), was her fifth Missouri School Record performance of the season and not only put her at the top of the collegiate rankings by nearly a foot, but also gave her the No. 6 spot in the nation overall and the No. 17 spot in the world.  She also holds the No. 10 position in the NCAA for the weight throw with her school record mark of 21.18m (69-6) from February.

Peoples will travel down to Albuquerque, NM, with teammates Jill Rushin (shot put) and Markesh Woodson (60-meter dash) for the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships, held March 14-15.  For the latest on your Tigers, stay tuned to MUTigers.com and follow the team on Twitter @MIZ_TrackField.
