COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou soccer team used goals from senior Brooke Williams, junior Kaysie Clark and sophomore Reagan Russell to propel the Tigers to a 3-2 exhibition win over SMU Saturday evening at Walton Stadium. The match is the Tigers' lone exhibition contest of the preseason.

Mizzou was on the attack from the opening whistle, with four shots in the first eight minutes of action. Freshman Melanie Donaldson narrowly missed the back of the net when her header bounced off the crossbar. Senior Dominique Richardson tried to one-time the rebound back on net but SMU goalkeeper Lauryn Bodden made the save. Near misses from redshirt sophomore Lauren Flynn, Clark and Russell kept the Tigers off the scoreboard for most of the first half.

Russell finally broke through for the Tigers in the 44th minute to put the home team ahead 1-0. The forward corralled a pass from freshman Lauren Selaiden and punched the ball past the Mustang keeper for the game's first tally.

Clark added Missouri's second goal in the 55th minute. Junior Taylor Grant sent an endline pass into the box to Clark, who then sent a low shot into the left corner of the net.

The Mustangs came within one goal, 2-1, in the 78th minute when Bari Kesner poked a shot past Mizzou goalkeeper Kristen Rivers.

However, the Tigers responded less than 10 minutes later when senior Danielle Nottingham sent a through ball up to Williams on the left side of the field. Williams took a few touches and sent 30-yard bending ball to the upper right corner of the goal and into the back of the net.

SMU scored with 22 seconds remaining in the contest for the 3-2 final score.

Missouri keepers McKenzie Sauerwein and Rivers each made two saves in the match.

The Tigers officially open the 2013 season at Walton Stadium against Pacific on Friday, Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. The squad then travels to Memphis, Tenn., to face Memphis on Sunday, Aug. 25 at 1 p.m.
