Missouri Basketball Notes
Mizzou at South Carolina - Feb. 28, 2013
- Missouri and South Carolina met for the second time in series history. Missouri won the first meeting 71-65 on Jan. 22 and are now 2-0 all-time vs. the Gamecocks.
- In that first meeting Mizzou did not have the services of Laurence Bowers and Keion Bell. The pair combined for 30 points on 11-of-17 shooting this evening.
- Tonight's victory (90-68) was Missouri's 19th win of 20+ points on the road since 1950 and already the third under Frank Haith ... The Tigers won by 22 last year at Texas Tech and by 42 at Mississippi State this year.
- Missouri earned its 20th win of the season tonight. Missouri has won 20 games for the fifth consecutive year, a new school record. Missouri has 25 20-win seasons in program history.
- Head Coach Frank Haith won his 50th game (63 total games) as the head coach of Mizzou. He is the fastest to 50 wins in school history.
- To put that in perspective Mike Anderson won his 50th game in his 81st try, Quin Snyder won No. 50 in his 80th game and Norm Stewart grabbed win No. 50 at Mizzou in his 92nd game. George Edwards is actually No. 2 on the list, winning his 50th game in his 79th attempt. Wilbur Stalcup won his 50th in game 86 tries.
- Phil Pressey continues to work his way towards his second consecutive 200-assist season. He entered the game with 189 dimes and now has 198 following his nine dimes tonight. Pressey needs 25 dimes this season to break his own Mizzou single-season record. He had 223 last season as a sophomore.
- Alex Oriakhi is also nearing his 1,000th career rebound. Oriakhi has 986 career caroms and needs 14 to reach that unique milestone. To put that in perspective only Arthur Johnson (2001-04) and Doug Smith (1988-91) reached that milestone. Johnson had 1,083 and Smith had 1,053.
- Oriakhi is nearing the Mizzou Top 10 for blocked shots in a season. Oriakhi has 43 following tonight's game and needs two more to join the Mizzou Top 10. Ricardo Ratliffe (2010-11) and Travon Bryant (2003-04) had 45 swats and are currently 10th on the Mizzou single season list.
- Oriakhi had another perfect shooting day vs. South Carolina. He finished tonight's game with 18 points and three rebounds. He had 18 points and 11 rebounds in the first meeting. He was also a combined 10-of-10 FGs and 16-of-16 FTs in two meetings with the Gamecocks after going 6-of-6 from the floor and 6-of-6 from the line tonight.
- Keion Bell was magnificent in tonight's game vs. South Carolina. He scored 24 points, including 18 in the first half. Bell leads Mizzou (tied with Phil Pressey) with five 20-point games this season and all five of those 20-point efforts have come in the last eight games.
- Bell also finished with four assists, equaling his season high.
- Jabari Brown finished with a career high 23 points, recording his fourth 20-point game of the year. It was just his 19th game of the season since joining back on Dec. 17. His previous career high was 22 in the SEC-opener against Alabama. Brown also dished five dimes and grabbed two steals in 23 minutes.
- Missouri hit 6-of-9 treys tonight. The nine three-point attempts were a season low. The Tigers took just 12 treys in games vs. Nicholls State and Texas A&M.
- Missouri shot a season high 69.6 percent from the floor. It was not the school record however. The best mark in school history was 75.4 percent vs. Hawaii Loa on Dec. 6, 1989.
