Tigers Open Strong Against SIU and Kentucky

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Mizzou women's swimming and diving team opened day one of competition in a two-day tri-meet against host Southern Illinois and Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky Thursday evening in Carbondale, Ill. Missouri won five events during first day action.
The Tigers opened competition with a win in the women's 400 medley relay, as the team of sophomore Madison Bridges, freshman Katharine Ross, junior Danielle Barbiea and sophomore Anna Patterson clocked a time of 3:46.38 to take first.
Patterson also claimed the first of two individual event victories as she tied for the 50 free win in 23.76. The sophomore also took top honors in the 100 free with a swim of 51.92.
Ross remained perfect in the 100 breast in her inaugural season with her third straight win in the 100 breast. The freshman clocked a time of 1:03.33 to take the win, ahead of sophomore Lauren Stoeckle, who took second in 1:05.52.
Mizzou finished one-two in the 100 back with strong swims from sophomore Madison Bridges and junior Emily Doucette. Bridges placed first with a time of 57.43, just ahead of Doucette in 57.89.
In the 100 fly, Barbiea took second with a time of 54.27. However, her time was a season best and an NCAA `B' qualifying time.
The two-day meet continues on Friday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m.
