Former Tiger Ampudia is Captain for Colombian National Team

Sep 5, 2013

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Former Mizzou volleyball standout Paola Ampudia is continuing her professional career and was just recently named team captain for the Colombian National Team. The Cali, Colombia, native was an All-American for Mizzou in 2010 and was the 2009 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year as well as a finalist for player of the year in that league in 2010.

Ampudia, a crowd favorite while at Mizzou, wowed the Tiger fans with her back-row attacks and still holds the school records for kills in a match (35 at Kansas in 2009) and attacks in a single match (78). Her 35 kills at Kansas in 2009 are also a Big 12 four-set record. She was named AVCA National Player of the Week once in her career and she also won seven Big 12 weekly honors in her two-year career as a Tiger. She had 493 kills in 2010, the fifth-most in school history in a single season, and was the top attacker on the Tiger team that reached the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 that year.
