Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships Begin Wednesday

Columbia, Mo. - The 2012 Big 12 Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will take place Feb. 22-25 at the Mizzou Aquatic Center in Columbia, Mo. This is the third year that the Tigers will host the event, after serving as the championship site in 2006 and 2009. This will also be Mizzou's final Big 12 meet and will feature elite swimmers from around the world.
The 18th ranked Missouri women's team has re-written the record books this season. Senior Shara Stafford set Missouri top times in five events (50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, 100 Fly, 200 IM) and two relays (200 Free Relay, 400 Medley Relay). Junior Dominique Bouchard hopes to improve upon her Big 12 Conference record time of 1:52.02 in the 200 Back, which she set at the 2011 Big 12 Championship. Many Tigers also met Olympic Trials qualifications this season including Stafford (100 Fly in 1:01.64), Cassie Cunningham (50 Free in 26.07), Amanda Masters (100 Breast in 1:11.06, 200 Breast in 2:34.53), and Rachel Ripley (100 Breast in 1:11.14).
Iowa State, Kansas, Missouri, Texas and Texas A&M will face off for the women's title. The Aggies, have won four out of the last five titles, while Texas will be vying for a 10th conference title overall.
