No. 16 Mizzou Continues Action Sunday Against Mississippi State

Oct. 6, 2012

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The No. 16 Mizzou soccer team closes out its short two-game homestand on Sunday, Oct. 7 when the team hosts the Mississippi State Bulldogs at 1 p.m. at Walton Stadium.

The Tigers, 11-2 overall and 6-1 in Southeastern Conference play, are coming off a dramatic 2-1 overtime win over Kentucky on Friday night. Junior Alyssa Diggs scored both of Mizzou's goals, including the game-winner less with less than three minutes remaining in the overtime session, to propel Mizzou to victory. The goals were the fifth and sixth of the season for Diggs, who leads the team in that category. Senior Haley Krentz and junior Danielle Nottingham each earned assists, which were the seventh and fourth, respectively, of the season for the pair.

Thanks to the win over the Wildcats, the Tigers are 11-2 for the first time in program history. The previous best start was 10-2, which the 2007 squad also accomplished.

Mississippi State enters the matchup with a 7-6-1 overall mark and a 0-6-1 record in league play. The Bulldogs are in the midst of a six-game losing streak, including a 2-0 loss at Auburn on Friday.
