
Track and Field Hands Out Team Awards

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou track and field team handed out its annual team awards last week as 22 members of the team were honored with year-end awards. In all, the 22 student-athletes were recognized across eight different awards, all of which reflect the commitment to excellence of the Mizzou track and field program. Below is a list of the awards and each recipient.
Joe Marks Awards - The Joe Marks Award was presented for the first time in 1999. Marks was a dedicated runner, official, supporter and friend of both the cross country and track and field programs. This award is given in his honor to the outstanding cross country runner whose life demonstrates a commitment to excellence.

Bill Rawson Award - Each year, the outstanding freshman of the track and field teams receives the Bill Rawson Award. A half-miler in the mid-1960s, Rawson was killed in action in Vietnam while serving as a Marine Lieutenant in 1967. Rawson was part of two Missouri record-setting relay teams in his career - the sprint medley relay (1962) and the mile (1964).

Marvin L. Patterson Award - The Marvin L. Patterson award is given annually in memory of Marvin L. Patterson, the longtime Missouri track and field official, head starter and great friend. This award recognizes a Missouri non-scholarship athlete who displays a dedication to academic and athletic excellence, along with an unselfish and giving spirit. These outstanding qualities have all contributed to the success of the Mizzou track and field team.

Missouri Track Coaches Award - The Missouri Track Coaches Award is given to the student-athlete that displays courage.

Derrick Peterson Award - The Derrick Peterson Award is given annually to the most outstanding performer on the men's track and field team as demonstrated by their achievements throughout the current season.

Natasha Kaiser-Brown Award - The Natasha Kaiser-Brown Award is given annually to the most outstanding performer on the women's track and field team as demonstrated by their achievements throughout the current season.

Tom Botts Award - The Tom Botts Award has been presented annually since 1972. This award goes to the seniors on the Missouri track and field team who best exemplify the ethics, integrity, citizenship and leadership demonstrated by Tom Botts.

Mizzou also elected its 2011-12 team captains for next season as well. Serving as captains will be Belvis, Farmer, Sierra Gant, Layne Moore, Roxberg and Kelcy Vanarsdall on the women's side and Ryan Blackwell, Tucker Bounds, Tim Opfer, Storms, Quigley and Tyrell Everett on the men's side.
