Columbia, Mo. -
Missouri Head Coach Stephanie Priesmeyer's young squad has improved each weekend during the spring season and that improvement was evident team-wide on Saturday as three Tigers positioned themselves amongst the Top 15 heading into Sunday's final round of play at the 2011 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship at The Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo.
The 2011 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship is being played on the par-72, 6,234-yard Club at Old Hawthorne in Columbia, Mo. The University of Texas has taken over first place after 36 holes. The Longhorns shot a 1-under-par 287 on Saturday and are two shots ahead of second place Iowa State. Texas' 36-hole total of 583 is the lowest two-round score in Big 12 history. Iowa State is second with a 585, while Missouri and Texas A&M are tied for third with a two-round 588.
The two-round 588 is the best in school history for Mizzou at the Big 12 Championship. Missouri's previous best 36-hole score was 600, which came in 2006 at the Country Club of Lincoln, Neb.
Hannah Lovelock leads Missouri's trio of Top 15 placers. The Surrey, England, native shot a 74 on Saturday and is ninth overall, just two shots removed from second place. Lovelock played her final four holes 2-under-par to charge back up the standings.
Missouri's top player on Saturday was Marissa Cook. The Edwardsville, Ill., native had six birdies during her 2-under-par round of 70, including birdies on No. 1 and No. 3. A double bogey on No. 6 didn't slow her, as she responded with birdies on No. 8 and No. 9 to regain form. Cook is tied for 10th overall with a two-round 146.
Freshman Taylor Gohn fired an even-par 72 to jump into the Top 15 as well. She balanced four birdies and four bogeys and her birdie on No. 18 leveled her round. She is 3-over-par for the tournament and just two shots outside the Top 10.
Texas' Madison Pressel shot a second round 66 (-6) to take a commanding individual lead. She leads by six shots over six other performers heading into Sunday.
Because of expected rainfall, Sunday's final round will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun format. Mizzou will begin play off holes No. 5-9 at 8 a.m.
