Columbia, Mo. - Missouri challenged the Nebraska Huskers on Sun., March 27th at 1 p.m. in the Green Tennis Center. The Tigers tested the Huskers in doubles play when No. 2 doubles partners Marlen Hacke and Jamie Mera tied their opponents 8-8 but fell 7-2 in the tiebreaker. Missouri's Rachel Stuhlmann and Mahdi Besovic also contested their doubles opponents Frederike Putthoff and Maike Zeppernick and tied 8-8 but lost in the tiebreaker 7-1. The pairing of Kaitlyn Ritchie and Mallory Weber was defeated at No. 1 doubles 8-4.
The Tigers fought closely in singles competition against the Huskers but it wasn't enough to overcome Nebraska's lead with the doubles point early on in the match. Maria Christensen of Missouri fell 6-2 in her first set but came back in the second set 6-3 and finished off her opponent 6-2 in the third set. Tiger Jamie Mera lost 6-4 in her first set but won 6-3 in her second. There was a tiebreaker instead of a third set and Mera won in the tiebreaker 10-3. Rachel Stuhlmann defeated Zeppernick 6-2. Kaitlyn Ritchie dropped her first set 7-5 and came back in the second set to tie Madeleine Geibert 6-6. Ritchie lost in the tiebreaker 7-1. Tigers' Weber faced Patricia Veresova and was defeated 6-2, 6-4 while Missouri's Marlen Hacke was overcome 6-4, 7-5.
Missouri will continue competition at home on Saturday, April 2nd at 1 p.m. Weather permitting play will be held at Bethel Park and there will be free pizza. For more information see mutigers.com
