No. 75 Missouri Handles the Cyclones

Columbia, MO – To start off competition with the Iowa State Cyclones, the No. 75 Missouri Tigers began their doubles competition at 6 p.m. in the Green Tennis Center on Friday night. The number one pairing of seniors Kaitlyn Ritchie and Mallory Weber crushed cyclones Tessa Lang and Maria Macedo 8-3. Tigers' Marlen Hacke and Jamie Mera competed at the number two spot and fell 8-3 while number three doubles partners Rachel Stuhlmann and Mahdi Besovic were defeated 8-2. This gave the Cyclones an early lead when they won the doubles point.
Singles play was close all night with Hacke winning at the number three spot 7-5, 7-5 against Lang and Ritchie falling at number one 4-6, 4-6. Missouri's Maria Christensen dominated her opponent 6-2, 6-4 at the number four spot. Weber had an exciting competition against Macedo of Iowa State when she won her first set 6-4 and dropped her second 2-6. The two entered a tiebreaker after ending their third set 6-6 and Weber finished off the cyclone 7-3. After Missouri led 3-2, the match came down to the Tigers' fifth and sixth singles players Mera and Stuhlmann. Both Mera and Stuhlmann dropped their first sets but came back successful and won their second sets in order continue play in third sets. Stuhlmann won her singles point 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 and Mera also won her singles point 4-6, 6-0,6-1.
Missouri will continue Big 12 play on Sunday, March 27th when they face Nebraska at 1 p.m. Weather permitting, play will be held at Bethel Park. For more information visit mutigers.com
