Mizzou Women's Golf Plays Well At MountainView Collegiate

Columbia, Mo. - Missouri women's golf was ready for a breakout performance this spring and the Tigers delivered on Friday afternoon as they stand in sixth place after 36 holes at the 2011 Mountain View Collegiate in Tucson, Ariz.
The 54-hole event is being held at the par-72, 6,227-yard MountainView Country Club in Tucson. The 13th annual event is hosted by the University of Colorado and last year's medalist was former Tiger great Julia Potter, who logged a 3-over-par 219.
Missouri shot an opening-round 284 to take an early lead against a talented field that included a pair of top-15 clubs (#12 Arkansas and #14 Iowa State) and the Tigers remain in strong position, sitting in sixth place with its best two-round day of competition this spring.
"I thought we played this course correctly in the opening round, hitting fairways and greens," head coach Stephanie Priesmeyer said. "We either made birdie or had a boring two-putt for par, but we swung with confidence. I thought in the second round we caught some tough breaks, but the team really battled. We'll go after it again tomorrow and see how the cards fall."
Marissa Cook was steady at her #1 position for Mizzou shooting back-to-back rounds of 72-73--145 to tie for 12th after 36 holes. Freshman Taylor Gohn is also in the top 20 with back-to-back rounds of 69-77--146, to stand in 16th.
Missouri leads a host of Big 12 Conference programs heading into Saturday's finale, bettering/equaling team scores from Texas Tech, Kansas State, Kansas, Nebraska and Baylor in this Big 12-heavy event.
Competition begins tomorrow at 8 a.m. in Tucson, Ariz.
