Tigers Take Third at Big 12 Championships

Austin, Tex.-- Missouri placed third overall in the Big 12 Championships, which ended Saturday night in Austin. The Tigers ended the meet with 707 total points.
In their first competition of the night, the 200 back, John Higgins placed fifth for the Tigers, finishing in 1:45.60, while Ryan Sellers placed seventh in a personal best (and sixth all-time best) 1:47.05. Yaniv Shnaider placed ninth, finishing in 1:50.61.
In the men's platform diving finals, David Bonuchi finished second with 393.70 points, Dante Jones placed fifth with 352.75, and Mitch Harris finished seventh with 225.70.
Jordan Hawley finished sixth in the 100 free final, finishing in 44.20, while Roko Simunic placed ninth in a personal best (and eighth best all-time) 44.97 finish. Scott Martin placed 10th, swimming a 45.36.
Spenser Lauver finished fifth in the grueling 1650 free event, clocking a 15:44.99. Vito Cammisano took seventh in 15:49.86, while Ethan Rose placed eighth in 16:09.89.
Jowan Qupty was the top finisher in the 200 breast for Mizzou, placing fifth in a personal best 1:58.17, a time that stands second in Missouri record books. Michael Lopresti placed sixth in 2:01.49, while Mark Conroy finished 10th in 2:05.24.
In the 200 fly final, David Dorak placed fourth with a time of 1:50.87, while Jason King finished fifth in 1:51.55.
In the last event of the evening, the 400 free relay, the team of Jordan Hawley, Anders Melin, Roko Simunic, and Scott Martin finished in 2:57.72, shattering the previous all-time Missouri record.
Overall this week, the Mizzou men's team had 19 swims and diving scores that cracked the All-Time Top Ten list at the University of Missouri, including five new overall Top Times. Missouri finished in third place with 707 points.
The Tigers' accomplishments this week give them high hopes for rest of the postseason. Divers next compete at the Diving Zone Championships held in Austin, Tex. March 10-12, while select swimmers for Missouri will next compete at the NCAA Championships, also held in Austin, March 17-19.
