TULSA, Okla. – The University of Missouri Tennis concluded fall competition this past weekend as the squad competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals in Tulsa, Okla., Oct. 20-24.
Sophomore Rachel Stuhlmann showed her athleticism when she defeated Bradley's Mariana Rong in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Stuhlmann fought to move on in singles but Nebraska'a Mary Weatherholt held her off, 6-2, 6-1.
“It is exciting and I am proud of this team's improvement over the course of this fall season,” Head Coach Sasha Schmid said.
In singles play, senior Jamie Mera faced off with Nebraska's Janine Weinrich. Mera dropped the first set but came back to win the second, 7-5 before Weinrich was able to prevail in the last set 6-0. Freshman Alexandra Clark had a similar match against Saint Louis' Jenny Nalepa, as Clark won her first set 6-3 but Nalepa was pulled ahead to win the final two sets.
“Although I know we all wanted to have some more matches turn in our favor this weekend, I thought each of the girls played some if their best tennis of the fall this weekend,” Schmid said. “We are looking forward to more practice and preparation for our competitive spring season. We have to keep working hard and improving.”
The Tigers return to the court Jan. 14-16 when the team faces off against numerous teams at the Indiana University Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
