Men's Golf Travels To Michigan

Sept. 9, 2011

Columbia, Mo. - Mizzou Golf hits the road once again next week as the Tigers travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to compete in the University of Michigan Wolverine Intercollegiate, Sept. 12-13.

The Michigan Wolverine Intercollegiate will feature 11 teams, including Big 12 foes Baylor and Iowa State, as well as California, Detroit, IUPUI, Marquette, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina and Oakland. The event will be played on the par 71, 6,687-yard U-M Golf Course.

It's been a quick start to the fall campaign for head coach Mark Leroux's club, led by the excellent play of returning All-American Jace Long. Named one of the country's Top 50 collegiate golfers by Golf Digest, Long paced Missouri at last week's Turning Stone Intercollegiate, firing consistent rounds of 72-70-72 to finish 2-under-par and tied for seventh place. The Dixon, Mo., native was one of two Tigers in the Top 10 and four Missouri players finished among the Top 20 overall.

Nick Wilson will golf second for Missouri following a solid debut last week. A senior, Wilson was 1-under-par after his first 36 holes in New York and only a final-round 77 kept him from a Top 10 placing.

Sophomore Emilio Cuartero will golf third for the team next week. A native of Lleida, Spain, Cuartero finished 10th at Turning Stone, building off his excellent freshman season. Last year Cuartero won the Washington State Snowman Getaway and is poised to make an even bigger impact in his second year at Mizzou.

The low round of the opening event came courtesy of Jefferson City native Brad Moody. The former Helias High School standout shot a collegiate-low of 68 and remained inside the Top 20 for the entire event, finishing 13th overall.

Rounding out the starters for Missouri will be Hunter Kraus. The Memphis, Tenn., native made four starts for Missouri last season, including a 10th place finish at the 2011 Columbia Orthopedic Group Mizzou Intercollegiate.

Competition begins at 8 a.m. on Monday with 36 holes of play. The tournament concludes on Tuesday with the final round also starting at 8 a.m.
