COLUMBIA, Mo. - Tiger senior middle hitter Brittney Brimmage (East St. Louis, Ill.) played a key role on the USA Volleyball A2 Blue Team that claimed the USA Volleyball Women's Open Division Championship on Tuesday (May 31). The team came back through the consolation bracket and defeated the USA A2 Red Team, 26-24, in a golden set playoff. The team scored four unanswered points to win the set as well, coming back from a 24-22 deficit.
In all, Brimmage's team went 4-0, winning 12 of 15 sets to during pool play. That advanced the team to the Open Playoff bracket where it won its first match, 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 25-14), before losing to USA Red Team, 3-1 (23-25, 20-25, 25-16, 18-25), dropping the team to the losers' bracket. From there the team worked its way to the Championship match where it defeated the Red Team, forcing the Golden Set in which the Blue Team won, 26-24, for the title.
