Women's Basketball Honored at ROARS

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's basketball team earned a number of awards at the third annual ROARS at Mizzou Arena on May 2.

The women's basketball team took home the Team Community Service Award for their help in the Columbia community over the course of the year. During the 2010-11 season, the team logged over 260 hours of service, including Grant Elementary School, the Women's and Children's Hospital, Cedar Ridge Elementary School, Columbia Humane Society and the Starlight Reading Program, among others.

Senior RaeShara Brown took home the female We Are Mizzou Award, given to the female who best encompasses the MU core values of academic integrity, social responsibility and competitive excellence. Brown finished up her collegiate eligibility in March after a remarkable senior season. The guard earned All-Big 12 second team honors after posting marks of 16.8 ppg., 6.0 rpg., 4.5 apg. and 2.6 spg. Brown ends her career as Mizzou's all-time steals leader and fourth all-time in assists. She was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 second team this year.

Additionally, Bekah Mills was the winner of the Female Courage Award, which is given to a female student-athlete who has overcome significant adversity to succeed in all areas. Mills missed all of the 2007-08 and 2009-10 and all but three games of 2010-11 due to injuries. During a redshirt freshman campaign in 2008-09, the point guard started 24 or the 29 games she played, while averaging 5.9 ppg., 3.2 rpg. and 2.2 apg.
