COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former Mizzou All-American Nicholas Marable finished in second place at the 2011 U.S. Open on Saturday night, held at the Cleveland Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio.
Wrestling freestyle at 74 kg/163 lbs., Marable lost in the finals to 2011 NCAA Champion and Hodge Trophy winner Jordan Burroughs, a former Husker wrestler. The Tiger assistant strength and conditioning coach took the opening period, 3-0, but lost 1-0 in the second and 3-0 in the third.
Marable, wrestling for Sunkist Kids, opened with a 1-0, 1-0 decision against Derek Peperas (OCU Stars). He followed that up with with a decision over Moza Fay (OTC, Gator WC), winning 0-1, 1-0, 1-1. In the semifinals, Marable defeated former Iowa Hawkeye and current Hawkeye NC, NYAC wrestler Ryan Morningstar by a 1-0, 1-1, 2-0 decision.
The top seven placewinners at each weight in men's and women's freestyle and men's Greco-Roman advance to the U.S. World Team Trials in June in Oklahoma City.
