Three Tigers Tryout for USA Volleyball

March 2, 2011

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Three members of the Mizzou volleyball spent last weekend in Colorado Springs, Colo., participating in open tryouts for the US Women's National and US Women's National A2 Teams. The three Tigers on hand at the tryouts were Brittney Brimmage (East St. Louis, Ill.), Lisa Henning (Blue Springs, Mo.) and incoming freshman Jade Hayes (Ozark, Mo.). There were a record-setting 204 participants at the tryouts.

The Tigers underwent physical testing and were put through a variety of different drills to test athleticism and their overall volleyball ability in the first phase of the tryouts. The athletes were then divided in to three groups - red, white and blue - and began playing against each other. The three Tigers on hand will be informed of their status with USA Volleyball after the US National Team coaches have had a chance to review statistical analysis and evaluate each player.

Student-athletes in college with eligibility remaining for the 2011 season and not selected to the USA Women's National Team may be invited to participate in the U.S. Women's National Senior A2 Team. This program is tentatively scheduled to take place in Dallas from May 23 through June 1. A projected 36 athletes will be invited to participate in the program, which will include training and competition in the 2011 USA Volleyball Open National Championships in the Open Division from May 28-31. USA Volleyball considers the event as the National Championship for the sport of volleyball in the United States.
