COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Mizzou track and field team will continue its indoor season this weekend at the Husker Invitational, which will begin at noon tomorrow (Feb. 4) at the Devaney Sports Center. Mizzou will not begin competition until 5 p.m. at the meet, starting with the women's weight throw. The track events will begin at 6 p.m. with the women's 60m hurdles preliminaries. The meet will resume on Saturday (Feb. 5) at 10 a.m. and run through 5 p.m.

Joining the Tigers and Huskers at the meet will be teams from Colorado, Drake, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Northern Colorado, Oklahoma, Oral Roberts, Rice, St. Louis, South Dakota, Tulane, Wisconsin and Wyoming. This will also mark the Tigers' second trip to Lincoln during the indoor season as they took part in the Adidas Classic last month.

The Tigers are coming off of a very successful opening month as they move towards the championship portion of the indoor season. The women had one of the most impressive performances of the season just last week as they claimed the Iowa State Bill Bergan Invitational team title in dominating fashion. The men also had a great opening month as two individuals - Lars Rise (Trondheim, Norway) and Brian Hancock (Monroe City, Mo.) - both rank among the national elite in their respective events. Both Rise and Hancock are three-time All-Americans and sit among the nation's top 15 in the heptathlon and pole vault, respectively. Both also lead the Big 12 in their events and will compete this weekend.

On the women's side, sophomore middle-distance runner Laura Roxberg (Overland Park, Kan.) has had a breakout season thus far as she has been a standout in the 1,000m run and the mile. In fact, Roxberg - who is an All-Big 12 honoree in the 1,000m run - owns the league's second-best 1,000m run time this season and is ranked eighth in the mile. She has also won four event titles this season including a double-win at the MU-KU Dual where she took home the 1,000m and mile run titles.

As always, Mizzou has also had a great presence in the throws events this season, highlighted by senior Chris Holly (Topeka, Kan.), who boasts the league's second-best weight throw mark this season at 18.87m (61-11), which he set last weekend at the Bill Bergan Invitational. He has matched or reset his personal-best mark at every meet this season - improving his PR from 18.11m (59-5) to the current 18.87m (61-11). - and will look to do so again this weekend. Sophomores Brooks Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and Corey Jones (Boonville, Mo.) also boast top-seven league rankings in the shot put headed into the Husker Invitational.

The throws on the women's side were a key reason why Mizzou was able to pick up the team title last weekend as they will look to carry that momentum into Nebraska. In fact, Mizzou took four of the top five spots in the shot put last weekend and three of the top five in the weight throw. Freshman Kearsten Peoples (Ottawa, Kan.) was the top finisher for Mizzou in both events as she won the shot put and claimed second in the weight throw. She ranks fourth in the league in the weight throw heading into the meet this weekend.

Also, the women's high jump has been a pleasant surprise for the Tigers this season. In fact, senior Stacy Swineburg (Camdenton, Mo.) holds the league's third-best high jump mark at 1.85m (5-8 ¾), set at the season-opening Missouri Invitational. Also, freshman Camille Hayes (Indianapolis, Ind.) claimed her first collegiate event title last week by taking the high jump at 1.70m (5-7).
