Ellis Takes Sixth

Omaha, Neb. - University of Missouri wrestling remains in the top-10 team standings at the 80th annual Division I Wrestling National Championships. With
No. 9 seed senior Mark Ellis, Missouri's only morning competitor, challenged Lehigh's No. 3 seed Zachery Rey. Through a scoreless first period, Rey took Ellis down in the second, earning just one more escape to take the match 3-1, and live on to compete for third place honors. Ellis fell into the match for fifth place, where he faced No. 11 Mitchell Monteiro of Cal State Bakersfield.
In his second match in a matter of 90 minutes, Ellis dropped a heartbreaker, 3-1, in sudden victory. Ellis will finish the tournament in sixth place, and end his career as a former National Champion, and two-time All-American.
Askren, just Missouri's fourth grappler to reach National finals, will meet on the national stage tonight with Boise State's Kirk Smith. The match will be aired live on ESPN with the finals slated to being at 6:30 p.m.
