Day One Results
AMES, Iowa - After the first day of competition at the Bill Bergan Invitational, Tiger senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) stands in third place in the men's heptathlon with 3,127 points, just 16 points behind Joey Schwecke of Minnesota. R.J. McGinnis of Minnesota leads the overall competition with 3,244 points.
Adcock started the day by clocking in at 7.19 in the 60m dash to earn 816 points. He followed that with a leap of 6.97m (22-10 ½) in the long jump, a new indoor personal-best in the event. His career-best leap earned him another 807 points in the event.
After posting more than 800 points in each of the first two events, Adcock just missed hitting the 800-point mark again in the high jump, clearing 1.99m (6-6 ¼). That jump added 794 points to his total. Adcock also tossed 13.70m (44-11 ½) in the shot put on day one - good for 710 total points - to round out his day. Adcock's shot put was the second-best mark in the competition as was his long jump mark of 6.97m (22-10 ½).
Adcock will return continue the combined events segment of the Bill Bergan Invitational tomorrow at 2 p.m. He will compete in the final three events of the heptathlon - the 60m hurdles, pole vault and 1,000m run. The Tiger women will also get underway in the combined events tomorrow, starting at 1 p.m. Both Lauren Begany (Fenton, Mo.) and Kelcy Vanarsdall (Buckner, Mo.) will participate for the Tigers.
