Adcock Places 12th at Thorpe Cup

MARBURG, Germany - Mizzou track and field senior Nick Adcock (Kansas City, Mo.) placed 12th with 7,327 points at the 17th annual Thorpe Cup in Marburg, Germany, over the weekend. He was the sixth-best American at the event, which pitted the top American decathletes against the top German decathletes. The meet was Adcock's second-ever Thorpe Cup.

Team Germany bested team USA by 13 points in the overall competition, which scored the top five finishers from each team. It was Germany's first win at the Thorpe Cup in nine years and their fourth in just 17 seasons. Overall, Germany notched 38,268 points while Team USA finished with 38,255. It was the closest finish since 1999 when Team USA bested Germany by just five points. Joe Detmer was the top finisher for Team USA with 8,090 points.

The decathlon was the fifth of the season for Adcock who posted marks of 11.45 in the 100m dash, 6.85m (22-5 ¾) in the long jump, 13.17m (43-2 ½) in the shot put, 1.97m (6-5 ½) in the high jump and 48.81 in the 400m dash on the first day of competition yielding a first-day score of 3,865. On day two, Adcock opened with a 15.13 in the 110m hurdles, 37.25m (122-2 ½) in the discus, 4.41m (14-5 ½) in the pole vault, 51.48m (168-10) in the javelin and closed the meet with a 4:41.08 clocking in the 1,500m run.
