Columbia, Mo. -
The Mizzou Football team continued preparations for the April 17th Black & Gold Game with a practice Thursday afternoon on sun-drenched Faurot Field, and held a short scrimmage toward the end of practice. As they did on Tuesday, the offense won the scrimmaging, giving them two consecutive wins, giving them the black jerseys as a prize.
The offense scored a pair of touchdowns, with the first coming on a 10-yard run around left end from senior TB Derrick Washington, and that was followed by a 24-yard touchdown pass from junior QB Blaine Gabbert to sophomore WR Rolandis Woodland, who made a nice adjustment on a nicely-thrown fade pass in the right corner of the endzone to make the grab in front of the defender.
Senior FS Jasper Simmons had a big day for the Tiger defense, as he started off with a vicious hit over the middle on sophomore WR T.J. Moe to break up a pass. On the next series, he made a nice break on an out route by the sideline and wrestled the ball away from a receiver to grab an interception. Junior LB Tyler Crane also had an interception later in the scrimmage, and he returned it some 20 yards before being stopped.
Here's a look at the stats from Thursday's outing. The Tigers return to the practice field Friday afternoon, and will hold a major scrimmage Saturday morning.
