COLUMBIA, Mo. – Sophomore pitcher Chelsea Thomas threw a complete game no-hitter and the No. 4/3 Missouri Tigers opened their home schedule with a 6-0 victory over Saint Louis.
The reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week struck out nine batters and allowed just one baserunner, a leadoff walk to start the game, while facing the minimum in seven innings. The leadoff walk was retired while attempting to steal second in the first inning. The no-hitter is the third of Thomas' career.
Junior Marla Schweisberger ignited the Tiger offense with a three-run home run in the first inning, her second long-ball of the year.
Missouri pushed across three more runs in the bottom of the fifth, extending their lead to 6-0. Junior Rhea Taylor scored twice and stole two more bases as she inches closer to the school record. Freshman Nicole Hudson drove in a run and scored.
The Tigers return to action tomorrow as the Missouri Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament resumes. Mizzou will face SEMO at 1:30 p.m. CT, and take on Missouri State at 5:30 p.m. CT.
