JaNay Woolridge, Jessup, Md., of the track and field team, and Joey Garrity, Orion, Ill., of the wrestling squad, were scholarship recipients. The two Tigers met the criteria for the award, which included a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and participation in two years of intercollegiate athletics.
Woolridge, senior, is the school record holder in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.53, set in 2008. Along with a tied school record, Woolridge placed fourth at the conference meet in the long jump with a leap of 6.19m. Garrity is known as the `utility' wrestler for Missouri, wrestling in four different weight classes for the Tigers. In the last five years, three other Missouri Wrestlers were awarded the Dr. Prentice Gautt Postgraduate Scholarship, including Tyler McCormick, the recipient in 2007-08 and Kenny Burleson in 2003-04. Garrity ended his career as a 174-pound grappler and has 36 career wins throughout his time as a Tiger.
Missouri has had 17 athletes honored in receiving this scholarship since 1999 and Woolridge and Garrity are the second track and field/wrestling pair to be awarded out of Missouri, after Elizabeth Robe and McCormick in 2007-08. This years recipients graduated from Missouri May 2009 and are expected to attend graduate or professional schools after graduation.
