Tiger Reunion
Columbia, Mo. -
Missouri's defense stole the show in Saturday afternoon's Black & Gold Game, as it held the Tiger offense to just one touchdown and 355 total yards en route to a 68-40 triumph in the final workout of the spring season.
Sophomore Blaine Gabbert led Missouri's passing attack with 93 yards on 9-of-17 throwing, while Jimmy Costello hit 10-of-21 passes for 70 yards. Costello scored the game's only touchdown, a one-yard option keeper after a defensive fumble recovery in the third quarter, serving as one of the highlights for the Tiger offense.
Missouri's passing game didn't get in synch Saturday, thanks in large part to the play of the Tiger defense. Mizzou averaged just 8.9 yards per completion and sophomore Kip Edwards recorded one of the plays of the day, picking off Gabbert and retuning the ball inside the Black redzone.
Safety Del Howard led Mizzou with six total tackles, including five solo stops, while linebacker Andrew Gachkar chipped in five tackles. Aldon Smith also showed excellent pass-rushing ability off the edge and recorded four total tackles, including two tackles for loss.
Missouri opens the 2009 season on Sept. 5 vs. Illinois in St. Louis. Game time from the Edward Jones Dome is scheduled for 2:40 p.m. on ESPN.
