COLUMBIA, Mo. - Senior diver Kendra Melnychuk closed out the final day of the NCAA Zone "D" Diving Championships with an 11th-place finish on the platform event. Melnychuk was the only Tiger woman competing on the day.
Since the two-time All-American had already qualified for the NCAA's, Melnychuk was able to dive down in the finals, using the session to work on her form and technique on dives with a lower DD than usual as she prepares to compete in her third-straight NCAA Championships.
Melnychuk scored a 250.70 in the preliminary round, and followed that with a 169.95 score in the finals for a 420.65 total.
Since the senior captain dove in all three events this weekend and qualified in the 1-meter, she will be diving in all three events at the NCAA's as well.
Melnychuk and the six swimmers who qualified for NCAA's will head down to College Station, Texas this week for the 2009 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The event starts Thursday, March 19, and runs through Saturday, March 21. Check back with mutigers.com throughout the week for more information.
