
Tigers Break Bulldogs, 4-3

Columbia, Mo. - The Tigers (4-2, 0-0 Big 12) earned their fourth victory of the season on Friday (Feb. 20) evening as they edged the women from Drake University, 4-3. The dual began at 5:00 p.m. beginning with a round of doubles followed by a round of singles. Play took place inside the Green Tennis Center in Columbia, Mo.
Missouri's Mallory Weber and Jamie Mera paired up once again for doubles competition. The duo recorded their fourth doubles win of the spring season, taking down Drake's top pair, Veronika Leszayova and Sarah Plowman, with an 8-3 win. With Weber and Mera's win at No. 1 the Tigers locked up the doubles point after a win from MU's No. 2 pair of Jessica Giuggioli and Kaitlyn Ritchie. Sofia Ayala and Danielle Day also recorded a win at the No. 3 spot.
The team score was tied with one singles match to go, the No. 5 position between Ritchie and Kari Sloboth of Drake. Sloboth got off to an early lead but wasn't able to hold Ritchie back. The Tiger battled back to take a 7-6 first-set victory before dominating the second set, 6-0. The match point gave Missouri their fourth and victory point for the dual.
The Tigers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday (Feb. 21) when they play host to the No. 66 Minnesota Gophers (5-3, 0-0 Big Ten). Dual competition will start at 2:00 p.m. inside the Green Tennis Center. Admission is free.
