Missouri vs. Nebraska
Saturday, February 14, 2009
Mizzou Arena, Columbia, Mo.
Missouri Head Coach Mike Anderson
On Missouri's defense…
“What a defensive effort by our guys. They came in with a mindset of defense. That has been the concept of our last two games. We want to hang out and really make them shoot the ball, especially in the first half. We came out and played tremendous defense. Anyone that came off that bench was a positive.”
On being a second half team…
“I thought in the second half, we not only started making shots, our defense continued to build up. We want to say thanks to the people who came out; we thought they made a difference. And you'll see that. When we get crowds of 15 and 16,000, they're really going to play."
On Keith Ramsey…
“Keith is very important to our line-up and you can see the game changes when he is in out line-up. We go a little bit faster, and certainly, defensively we are a lot better.”
On Nebraska's defensive effort…
“I think their approach was to come out on defense. The key is how you do with it. That's one of the things I am saying about our guys, they handled it well. I think it's the rhythm of the game, they throw your game off. Leo Lyons only got two touches. And look at the kind of shots they gave him. But our guys found a different way to score…”
Missouri Player Quotes
Junior Guard J.T. Tiller
On Missouri's strong second half…
“A lot of people think we're a second half team. We went into the locker room at halftime and Coach (Anderson) told us the game was getting boring. We didn't want it to be boring. That gave us energy, we came out ready in the second half.”
Senior Guard Matt Lawrence
On the sellout crowd…
“It's great that the fans come out and are coming with a lot of energy. I think for some of us, it works against us. We want to play well and get going, but sometimes we get in a hurry and make some mistakes, turn the ball over.”
Senior Forward Leo Lyons
On Keith Ramsey's play…
“He (Ramsey) came off the bench and really got us going. He kept us in the game. He's so good on defense and around the rim. He plays all over the place.”
On Missouri's big second-half performances…
“I think a lot of our games we've been big in the second half. Coach (Anderson) says the last ten minutes are really important, so we try to come out for those. But we want to focus on the whole game. We want to play well in the first half too.”
Nebraska Head Coach Doc Sadler:
Head Coach Nebraska
Talking about today's game:
“You have to stay close to Missouri, they get out of sight and it's hard to play catch up to them. It's my responsibility and I didn't have my guys ready for today.”
About His Team's Effort:
“I'm not disappointed in our effort at all, my guys wanted it, it just wasn't there. We just didn't take care of the ball and you have to give them credit."
