No. 9 Florida State Slips Past Mizzou

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The University of Missouri women's basketball team cut an 11-point second half deficit to one but could not get any closer as No. 9 Florida State pulled out a 73-66 win Sunday afternoon in the Seminole Classic. The Tigers fall to 3-2 while the Seminoles improve to 6-0.
Down 11 with 9:03 left in the game, Mizzou used a 12-2 run over the next five minutes, thanks to three-pointers from seniors Amanda Hanneman and Toy Richbow, for a 65-64 Florida State lead with 4:07 on the clock.
Florida State responded with five points from Cierra Bravard and two free throws from Jacinta Moore for a 70-64 game with 1:36 remaining. Junior Shakara Jones made a layup with 30.4 seconds left but the Seminoles held on for the win.
As a team, Mizzou shot 50 percent from behind the arc and grabbed 19 offensive rebounds. Hanneman led Missouri with 20 points to go along with six rebounds and a team high four steals. Senior Jessra Johnson contributed 16 points and nine boards while junior RaeShara Brown had 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Tigers began the contest on fire as the team built a 12-6 advantage just 4:42 in to the first half. After the Seminoles scored the first basket of the game, Hanneman sank two three-pointers to get Mizzou started and Jones hit back-to-back basket to double up Florida State.
Florida State came storming back to knot the score at 16-16 after Jacinta Monroe hit a layup with 10:46 remaining in the first. The Seminoles kept up their offensive pressure and gained a 27-24 advantage but senior Jessra Johnson nailed a three and sophomore Kendra Frazier made one of two free throws to tie the score at 27-27 with 3:46 on the clock.
The game went back and forth over the remaining minutes. Brown converted a layup for a 32-30 Tiger lead with 1:31 on the clock but the Seminoles scored the final five points of the half to take a 35-32 advantage at the break.
Four straight points by Florida State to open the second half gave the Seminoles a 39-32 lead but the Tigers caught fire from behind the arc as Hanneman hit three triples and Johnson one as the Mizzou took a 49-43 advantage with 14:55 remaining in the game.
A 13-3 run by Florida State over the next 4:36 put the home team back on top by four, 56-52, at the 10:19 mark of the second half.
After the Seminoles opened a 63-52 lead, Mizzou forced three consecutive turnovers and used a layup by Johnson and another three from Hanneman to pull within four, 63-59, with 6:16 on the clock. A three by senior Toy Richbow cut Missouri's deficit to three and junior Shakara Jones hit a jumper to pull the Tigers within one, 65-64, with 4:07 remaining in the game.
