COLUMBIA,Mo--Missouri finished Saturday's events of the Southwest College Invite placing them third overall after the completion of the meet.Between the two-day meet the team scored 656 points. Senior Greg DeStephen and Junior Jordan Hawley both had second place finishes during Saturdays' meet. They were also led by Junior Cameron Sellers.
Junior Jordan Hawley (Plano, Texas) who led the Tigers through Friday nights' meet, finished second in Saturday's 50-free. Hawley completed the race with a time of 20.91 seconds, clocking in just before Aggie swimmer Casey Strange (20.96). Senior Greg DeStephen (Columbus, Ohio), coming off a third place finish in the 1-meter diving from Friday nights' meet, dove to a second place finish in the 3-meter diving event Saturday morning. DeStephen scored 354.22 points, two points away from tying for first with Longhorn diver Drew Livingston.
Mizzou took a third place finish in the 200-free, with Sellers finishing in 1:41.81. Friday night Sellers had a fourth place finish in the 500-free, finishing at 4:40.32.
Jan Konarzewski (Warszawa, Poland) swam to a fourth place finish for Mizzou in the 100-back, clocking in at 50.21. Konarzewski also had Missouri's only first place finish throughout the weekend, winning the 200-back, with a time of 1:47.77. "Right now we have some young guys learning the ropes and older guys learning to keep up with the higher level," head coach Brian Hoffer said.
Konarzewski led Mizzou's 200- medley relay team composed of teammates, Michael Lopresti, Anders Melin and Jordan Hawley; which took fourth in the first event of the second day of competition. The team clocked in at 1:32.77.
On the second day of the matchup junior Dante Jones (Columbia, Missouri) was still unable to compete, due to an injured acquired during Friday night's warm-ups. The tigers hope to have Jones back into the water for their next matchup, against SIU. After this weekend's meet head coach Brian Hoffer states, "This was a good learning meet. It was a good chance to see how we line up with A&M."
At the completion of the Saturday's events, Missouri finished the invite in third place with 656 points, right ahead of host school SMU. Overall the first place title of the Southwest College Invite goes to the University of Texas with 872 points.
The men will be back in the pool hosting Southern Illinois Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Mizzou Aquatics Center. The meet will begin at 12:00 p.m. (CT).
