Tigers Take Game One Win, 9-0

Springfield, Mo. -The 12th-ranked Missouri softball team blanked UMKC, its first opponent of the All-Missouri Breast Cancer Awareness, 9-0, in six innings to improve to 15-3 on the year and 9-1 at neutral sites. Senior Stacy Delaney (Freeland, Mich.) was credited with the win, her second of the year, after throwing a six inning, complete game one hitter. Delaney struck out a season high 10 batters and allowed only one walk.

Sophomores Rhea Taylor (Buford, Ga.) and Marla Schweisberger (Raytown, Mo.) combined to drive in four runs. Taylor powered a second inning two out homer over the fence in right center, while Schweisberger knocked a two run yard ball over the UMKC centerfielder. As a team, the Tigers managed 14 hits, falling just one hit shy of the season high, 15, set Feb. 28 against Santa Clara.

Missouri scored four runs in the second inning. In addition to Taylor's two run homer, sophomore Megan Christopher doubled to right center driving in Andee Allen (Barnhart, Mo.) from second base. Shana White, playing in leftfield for the Tigers, scored from second base on teammate Lindsey Ubrun's (Riverside, Calif.) single to left field.

The win by run rule is Missouri's seventh of the 2009 campaign while its shutout is the Tigers' 10th.
