Softball Team Closes Fall Schedule Saturday

Oct. 7, 2008

Columbia, Mo.- The Missouri softball team is looking to finish out the 2008 fall season with an undefeated record. After holding off Jefferson County and Crowder Community College last weekend, the Tigers moved to 4-0. The Tigers hope to continue their streak this weekend when they head back to University Field to take on Three Rivers Community College at Noon (CT) and Johnson County Community College at 2 p.m. (CT) to finish out the regularly scheduled fall season. All games are open to the public, free of charge.

The Three Rivers Community College Lady Raiders are led by Head Coach Jack Childress who has been at the helm since 1995. With eight freshman and seven returning sophomores, the team will look for guidance from returning starting pitcher Chelsea Claypole who finished last season with a 1.19 ERA. As a team, the Lady Raiders ended the 2008 season with a 27-18 record.

After being with the program for four years, two of those years as interim head coach, Kelly Latendresse starts her first season as the official head coach at Johnson County Community College. The team is made up of 10 freshman and six returning sophomores. The young team will look to its sophomores who have had experience in big games after winning the NJCAA Region VI title for the second straight year, which earned the team a trip to the 2008 NJCAA National Championship where they finished fifth. The Cavaliers finished last season with an impressive 37-11 record.

With the fall season coming to a close, every Tiger player has had a chance to contribute, both offensively and defensively. With big hits coming from sophomore Megan Christopher and freshman Ashley Fleming last weekend, the Tigers hope to continue the winning trend in the final two games of the fall 2008 season.

Last season, the Tigers defeated Johnson Community college in an 11-3 victory.
