Columbia, Mo. -Coming off of back-to-back wins over North Central Missouri College and Meramec last weekend, the Missouri softball team returns to University Field Saturday, Oct. 4, for its second doubleheader of the fall season. The Tigers are set to take on Jefferson College beginning at Noon (CT) followed by a 2 p.m. (CT) game against Crowder Community College. Both games are open to the public at no charge.
Led by Head Coach Tony Cook, now in his third season at Jefferson College, the Vikings are a young team made up of seven freshmen and eight sophomores. Second team All-Region honoree pitcher Natalie Sago is back for the 2008 fall season. Sago is a right-handed hurler and earned second team all-conference honors in her freshman campaign. As a team, the Vikings finished last season with a 35-15 record claiming the Midwest Community College Athletics Conference (MCCAC) title for the third straight season.
Crowder Community College, housed in Neosho, Mo., is guided by first year Head Coach Lori Videmschek. The Lady `Riders are eight-time Region 16 champions and eight time national tournament contenders. In 2008, Crowder finished with an impressive 51-8 record that included a 12-game win streak and Region 16 title.
The Missouri softball team blanked last Saturday's opponents by a combined score of 29-0. Four Tiger pitchers saw time in the circle in the Sept. 27 doubleheader with freshman Chelsea Thomas throwing a four inning no hitter against North Central Missouri College.
Last season, Missouri split a two-game fall series with Crowder and won a 12-0 victory over Jefferson College.
