Kenny Chesney's The Road & The Radio Tour played to 1.3 million fans - making it the best attended tour in North America, over even the Dave Matthews Band and the Rolling Stones. - and taking Chesney's total fans played to over the 6 million mark for the past 5 summers. It appears that the only country star to play NFL stadiums shows no signs of slowing down with his Flip Flop Summer Tour, sponsored by Cruzan Rum.
Indeed, the man who was cited by a national panel of critics from publications as diverse as Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly to Country Weekly and Texas Music as "Live Act of the Year" in the Nashville Scene's annual Critics' Poll is looking at 6 NFL Stadiums again this summer, as well as out door ampitheater shows and arenas, making for a varied concert experience. "I guess I'm glad people are so excited about what we're doing," Chesney, whose "Beer In Mexico" is blazing up the country radio charts says with a laugh. "It's still a little bit crazy to me, but I know I can't wait to get out there... start rocking the parking lots when we can and hitting the stage as hard as possible. It's gonna be a good summer.... We've got Pat Green and Sugarland on the dates."
It's already been a year of extraordinary firsts for Sugarland, the chart-topping singer-songwriter duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. For starters, their Mercury Nashville debut, Twice the Speed of Life, was certified Double Platinum. In addition, they received the award for Breakthrough Favorite New Artist at the American Music Awards (their competition included artists from all genres of music.) Plus, radio and fans alike have embraced all of their singles: "Baby Girl," "Something More," "Just Might (Make Me Believe)" and "Down in Mississippi (Up To No Good)." Nettles was nominated in ACM Awards for Vocal Event of the Year category for "Who Says You Can't Go Home," her #1 duet with Bon Jovi.
