Missouri In Fifth After Second Day At Big 12 Championships

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Missouri sits in fifth place on the women's side of the meet following the second day of the Big 12 Swimming & Diving Championships at the Texas A&M Student Rec Center Natatorium Thursday.
Sophomore Jill Granger finished with nine points in the 500 free after she cut three seconds off her preliminary time to post the seventh-fastest finals time in 4:48.33
Senior Amy Charley scored for the Tigers in the 200 IM with a finals time of 2:07.35. Classmate Shannon Hogan notched her second-straight seventh-place finish in the conference meet with a steady time of 23.56 - her prelims time was just two=hundredths faster at 23.54.
Katie Gates, Lauren Cox and Taye Patterson all lowered their times from the prelims to the finals in the unscored "C" final heat.
After qualifying second in the prelims, sophomore Kendra Melnychuk dove to a sixth-place finish with a final score of 285.60.
Mizzou's "A" relay in the 400 medley relay registered 28 points to move into fifth place with 131 points in the days' final event. The Tigers are just four points behind Iowa State and 49 back of Kansas as they enter one of their stronger days on Friday.
"We have a lot of work to do in the next two days," according to MU Head Coach Brian Hoffer. "We will regoup tonight and come back tomorrow and get it going. We definitely got better tonight so that is promising.
"We have a bunch of swimmers that haven't even swam in an individual event yet."
Racing resumes on Friday morning with prelims starting at 10 a.m. and championship finals at 6 p.m.
