SACRAMENTO, Calif.--Missouri junior Shernelle Nicholls (St. Andrews Parrish, Barbados) earned All-America honors in the women's shot put with an eighth-place finish Saturday at the final day of the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif. Nicholls marked 54 feet, 5½ inches (16.60m) on her third attempt to make the finals and secure a team point for the Tigers.
Nicholls wrapped a fantastic season with her efforts today. A transfer from Missouri Baptist where she won the NAIA title a year ago with the shot, Nicholls went on to break Mizzou's school record in the event at the Big 12 Championships earlier this season in placing runner-up with a Barbados record of 56-2¾.
Nicholls becomes Mizzou's second All-American in the event. Janae Strickland won All-America honors during the 2003 indoor and 2004 outdoor seasons.
The Tigers will next turn their attention to the USA Track & Field Championships that will occur June 21-24 in Indianapolis. More information on the Mizzou's collegiate and post-collegiate fields in the event will be available in the coming days.
