
Mizzou Women's Tennis Earns Two Non-Conference Victories

Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri women's tennis team defeated Montana State and Minnesota this weekend at the Green Tennis Center, improving their spring record to 5-3.
Friday, the Tigers defeated Montana State 7-0, winning all six singles and three doubles matches. After the match, Tiger Head Coach Blake Starkey commented on the win.
"We have been a combination of sick and injured for a while. We've dropped some tough matches. We've fought hard, but we've just dropped some matches. A win is a win. I'm really happy for them because they needed to get that feeling back again."
In singles play, Tiger junior Yelena Olshanskaya stepped into the No. 1 position and defeated Montana State's Nuria Lozano 6-1, 6-4. At the No. 2 spot, Mizzou's Lubica Nadasska defeated Vera Vasileva 6-1, 6-1. This was Nadasska's second match of the year, and first since defeating West Virginia's Stasha Percival in the first match of the season. In other singles action, Tigers Val Dandik, Erika Josbena, Chrissy Svetlic, and Amanda Pratzel were all victorious. In doubles play, the Tiger duos of Kraftova/Svetlic, Olshanskaya/Dandik, and Pratzel/Josbena won their matches.
On Sunday, the Tigers welcomed Big Ten Conference foe Minnesota to the Green Tennis Center. Missouri set the tone early by winning the doubles point. At No. 2 doubles, Yelena Olshanskaya and Val Dandik defeated Minnesota's Danielle Mousseau and Marina Bugaenco 9-7. The Tiger duo of Amanda Pratzel and Erika Josbena won their match at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action, Tiger junior Yelena Olshanskaya defeated Minnesota's Mariana Splica 7-5, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Also collecting wins in singles play, Tigers Lubica Nadasska, Val Dandik, and Amanda Pratzel. Pratzel, a St. Louis native, is now 7-1 on the season in singles play at the No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 positions.
After taking Friday's match off, Tiger senior Hana Kraftova was defeated by Minnesota's Nischela Reddy on Sunday at No. 1 singles. Mizzou's Erika Josbena lost a tough three set match at No. 4 singles. In the No. 1 doubles match, the Tiger duo of Hana Kraftova and Chrissy Svetlic fell to Minnesota's Nischela Reddy and Ida Malmberg 8-3.
The Tigers return to the court next Saturday when they host Big 12 foe No. 65 Texas Tech at noon. All home matches are held at the Green Tennis Center in Columbia and are open to the public.
