COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Alyssa Hollins led four players in double-figures as Missouri defeated South Dakota State, 79-62, at Mizzou Arena Sunday afternoon.
Hollins finished with 18 points and had 14 in the second half as she connected on two 3-pointers in addition to attacking the basket more aggressively to the tune of 6-for-8 shooting in the frame.
Missouri (10-1) shot 47 percent and posted its second-highest scoring total of the season. Both figures were well above the season averages of 57.4 points and 35 percent shooting SDSU (8-3) had been allowing coming into the game.
In addition to Hollins' eighth game with at least 12 points, Missouri's senior trio of Carlynn Savant, Tiffany Brooks and EeTisha Riddle combined for 42 points, 16 rebounds, nine assists, three blocks and three steals.
SDSU held early leads of 4-0 and 8-4 before Missouri began to assert itself offensively. Savant scored five points to give the Tigers their first lead at 9-8. A pair of Jennifer Warkenthien free throws helped the Jacks regain the lead but EeTisha Riddle scored the next five points during a 7-0 Tiger run that made it 16-10 with 14:27 to play in the half. Mizzou never trailed the rest of the contest.
With the score 21-18, Mizzou went on a 10-0 run and stretched its lead to 13. SDSU cut it to nine on a pair of occasions and that's where the margin stood at the break, 39-30 Missouri.
The teams traded scores over the first 6:30. Then Missouri extended its lead to 17 thanks to a 12-2 run over the next 2:25. MU eventually took its largest margin on back-to-back threes by Jessra Johnson and Hollins which made it 75-56 with 2:34 left.
For SDSU, Courtney Grimsrud had 16 points and five rebounds. Abby Kratovil came off the bench to net 12 and Warkenthien had 10. Leading scorer Megan Vogel was held to her second-lowest total of the year at 8 points on just 4-of-8 shooting.
MU made six 3-pointers, while SDSU failed to connect on a three-pointer for the first time in nine years, going 0-for-7 from behind the arc, ending a streak of 277 games with at least one trifecta.
The game saw just 20 combined fouls but the teams were whistled for 32 turnovers. Missouri turned 22 SDSU turnovers into 28 points. The Tigers turned the ball over just 10 times, marking a new season-low.
Missouri will face Prairie View A&M (2-6) on Tuesday at Mizzou Arena. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
