Mizzou Finishes Fourth At UGA Fall Invitational

ATHENS, Ga. -- The Missouri women's swimming and diving team scored 485 points and finished fourth at the Georgia Fall Invitational this weekend at Gabrielsen Natatorium. The Tiger men were third with 635 points.

Jill Granger started the day with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 16:31.71 in the 1650 free to finished fifth overall. Junior Brandon Lee swam a 15:59.57 to cut four seconds off his personal best and post the eighth-fastest time at MU in the mile.

Travis Floyd and Jake Hoffman scored 27 points in the 200 backstroke when they finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

After logging a provision time in the 50 free earlier in the meet, Bennett Clark narrowly missed out on duplicating the feat in the 100 as he finished third in 44.66 - just .01 off the B standard.

Shannon Hogan, Taye Patterson and Katie Gates all swam season-bests in the 100 free to score 18 points.

Martin Cernansky touched fifth overall in the 200 breastroke in 2:01.84 for the fourth-fastest time in Tiger history.

Jill Bastien and Erin Yeager each advanced to the finals of the 200 breast, with Bastien shaving a second off her top time of the season, posting a 2:19.82.

In the men's 200 butterfly, Alex Zasadny led four Tigers in the top 16 with his seventh-place showing.

Jill Granger also advanced through the morning swim and scored for the Tigers as part of the top eight in the 200 butterfly. She also touched in a aseason-best time as she knocked three tics off her prior best time.

Divers Kendra Melnychuk and Greg DeStephen combined for a Mizzou sweep on the platform diving competition. Melnychuk's score of 250.35 was less than four points ahead of second, while DeStephen's winning mark of 315.65 was 54.60 points better than his nearest competitor.

The men's 400 free relay closed out the meet with the fifth-fastest in that event, clocking in at 3:01.95.
